D&D [Jun. 20th, 2009|10:22 pm]

Our Saturday afternoon group changed slightly. the guy who hosted was struck down with a real job and could no longer host. Considering that I live half a mile away from him I offered my place. We were introduced to two new gamers. One of them took up the character played by the absent host. It's interesting to see how a new character is introduced to the party. Our game involved The Rescue. We came across a group of warforged slavers harassing an half elf warlock. I got to use the onyx dog that was a part of a previous treasure. I'm the tank of the party, the big guy in armor wielding a great axe of terror so of course I named the dog Daisy.

We kicked a lot of ass and generally had a good time. I think I will be less tempted to snack if we game at my place. At least I have the option of snacking healthily.

A question I brought up in both gaming sessions. Dragons are often depicted on top of a pile of treasure. What does a creature of that size and ferocity need with money?

We were playing 4.0 D&D last weekend and My fifth level fighter, Axehammer came up against a bizerker flesh golem twice his size. I pulled out a daily power and used an action point and managed to dole out 80 points of Whup ass! The Golem went down and then two rounds later got up again. It was one of those "What the F*%K" moments.

Later on we got hit with a couple of Guardian Mummies and some scarub swarms that took everything we had. Our attacks were halved during the combat and we kept getting hit with mummy rot and other nasty bugs from the bugs.

It was a tough day.

Any one out there ever make a D&D party of dwarves based off of the seven dwarves?

Doc could be a cleric.
Grumpy would be a chaotic evil fighter.
Bashful would be a dwarven ninja.(?)
I picture Happy as a bard.

Our 4.0 D&D party ended up between a small army of skeletons and an army of zombies. We managed to hold our own and stay out of most of the line of fire but it took some doing.

It was interesting to watch how our DM kept track of everything and we used miniatures. Unfortunately he's going to be working Saturdays during December.

It seems like most of my groups bail out during the holidays.

The rest of the weekend was spent playing D&D.

It was an amusing coincidence that both games involved Lizardmen. The 4.0 session involved a variety of Lizardmen and the GM had miniatures for each of them.

The 2.0 session just had the generic lizardmen but there was a shit load of them. My halfling got ambushed and ended up going below zero hit points early on. I still tried to participate.

"I rolled 4 on initiative. I'm going to continue lying still and bleed. What do I need to roll?"

It was still a fun evening after a really depressing afternoon.

My week at work [Sep. 14th, 2008|07:01 pm]

[mood | busy]

Last week at work was a little crazy. Basically we had employee appreciation week. I'm on the committee that runs it. My company shows their appreciation by handing out candy. Kind of cheap,I know, but it's preferred over the cheesy knick knacks that clutter your desk.

Monday we handed out popcorn.
Tuesday we handed out little packets of candy.
Wednesday we hosted a barbecue. It was a controlled circus but it was fun. We had some difficulty lighting the grill and some of the food was a little under done but it seemed like a real popular event.
Thursday we doled out M&Ms.
Friday I missed out on the root beer floats because I had to attend a departmental picnic. There was a marshmallow launch(spitting contest), a pig calling contest, and a pie eating contest, Who can eat the most pie on five minutes. I won with a banana cream. I'll post pictures later.

Saturday was a really good gaming day. Our D&D 4.0 group got together and were busy going thru the sewer of a town fighting several kinds of rat creatures and an ooze. I had to fight the ooze from the inside out. I kept thinking of that scene from Ghost Busters when Bill Murrey gets slimed.

Sunday afternoon I spent with mom and I spent the rest of the evening cleaning up and getting stuff together for the walk.

How was your week?

D&D, Bowling, Mom and stuff [Sep. 8th, 2008|12:24 pm]

[mood | busy]

Friday: [info]cressida42 and I hung out at her place and cleared up space on her DVR.

Saturday: We made blueberry muffins. Well she made them and I helped eat some. I saved one for Mom but Cordilia got into the bag and started nibbling on it. I guess her appetite is coming back.

We spent the afternoon playing D&D 4.0. I really should read thru the manuel more intently. There are some rules to the game that I don't quite get.

After gaming Cressida dropped me off at Tuttle for our first league night. The first game I got an 88. I was trying to keep my scores low so I could get the "You bowled X above your average." patch. The second game I started to take it seriously and managed a 175! That's two points below my record!. The last game was around 130 which came out as my average for the evening. Not to shab. If they use the average from last year then I got it. If not oh well I will have to do better. We won one game and lost two.

Sunday: Mom was having a good day. I took her to Gigi's and we had a nice lunch. Last week she said somethings that suggested that dementia might be raising it's ugly head. If it continues I'll talk to my siblings about it.

Sunday afternoon I went on a cleaning bender. I did two loads of laundry and dishes, and the cat litter. I also finished organizing my videos and started taking down my books and moving the shelves to the front room where they will be more accessible. Once that's done and I take care of the plumbing I might have my belated house warming.

Because I was wound up from all the work I did not sleep well. I'm still a little wired today. It might be the coffee.

I Am A: Neutral Good Human Bard/Sorcerer (3rd/2nd Level)

Ability Scores:

Strength-13

Dexterity-13

Constitution-14

Intelligence-12

Wisdom-12

Charisma-12

Alignment:
Neutral Good A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias for or against order. However, neutral good can be a dangerous alignment because because it advances mediocrity by limiting the actions of the truly capable.

Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.

Primary Class:
Bards often serve as negotiators, messengers, scouts, and spies. They love to accompany heroes (and villains) to witness heroic (or villainous) deeds firsthand, since a bard who can tell a story from personal experience earns renown among his fellows. A bard casts arcane spells without any advance preparation, much like a sorcerer. Bards also share some specialized skills with rogues, and their knowledge of item lore is nearly unmatched. A high Charisma score allows a bard to cast high-level spells.

Secondary Class:
Sorcerers are arcane spellcasters who manipulate magic energy with imagination and talent rather than studious discipline. They have no books, no mentors, no theories just raw power that they direct at will. Sorcerers know fewer spells than wizards do and acquire them more slowly, but they can cast individual spells more often and have no need to prepare their incantations ahead of time. Also unlike wizards, sorcerers cannot specialize in a school of magic. Since sorcerers gain their powers without undergoing the years of rigorous study that wizards go through, they have more time to learn fighting skills and are proficient with simple weapons. Charisma is very important for sorcerers; the higher their value in this ability, the higher the spell level they can cast.

snow Computer Arrows. [Jan. 24th, 2005|12:17 pm]

[mood | refreshed]

I managed to get home safely friday evening. I was feeling a little tired so I took a nap around six and ended up waking up at midnight. I changed clothes, read a bit the went back to sleep. I ended up getting out bed around eight in the morning. They plow our parking lot during snow emergencies fortunately they don't tow if you're parked in the back. I had a nice little drift around my car. The guy in unit 3 told me we can park at Calhoun Square during snow emergencies for free as long as we get out early enough. I took care of some demesticus mainly laundry and dishes. Dish washer rule!

I stepped out to pick up an antenna card for my computer. All I had was a print out of the item [info]omnifarious sent me. I had no idea what I was really looking for and could only hand over the paper and say "My friend says to buy this." I hate not having a clue about this business. He came back with something slightly different and he didn't know if it was Unix compatible. Hopefully I got the right thing and we can get it to work. Putting it in with over the phone instructions from Omni should be really interesting.

Saturday afternoon I was invited to play D&D over the weekend with friends and their kids. It had been such a long time. I really miss gaming. These adventures are more hack and slash then the Middle Earth adventures I've been thru recently. One of the kids rolled a critical missed with a bow and accidentally shot me in the back. We're gaming with the twenty die system and using a character generation system that Jim got off the internet. Updating charactors is so much easier now.

Someone had mentioned the magician god and I had an image of a mass performed with a hat and a rabbit rather then the host and goblet of wine.

[music |Tom Learer Oedipus Rex]

Friday: I went to the South High production of Midsummer Nights Dream. I have to say it was a very professional production. It was a lot better then Ship's fru fru version of the play. The sets were right out of Lejune lune. The fairies came out on large bicycles. Bottom emoted nicely threw his mask. All in all I was very impressed. I regret not writing a back stage compliment pertaining to a different Shakespeare play.

"Why does Polonius look like a greek orthodox priest."

Saturday:I play D&D with the kids again. They used the kids lego men as miniatures. It worked very well. Have way thru the game we had to stop so S could go to cello class. I tagged along out of curiosity. The class was more about technique, holding your bow right and playing with other kids. I guess when you bow you suppose to say "Hippopotamusic" to yourself. It's a classical music thing. S played very well I was very proud just to see him in class. They played cello games. One boy would bow while the other would do the fingerings and all the kids would play a tune one note at a time. After that we went back to playing D&D. I learned how to cure Lycanthropy. It was a really interesting process. It would only work with that DM though. S got more use out of his spells but he's still a little skittish about getting involved in combat.

Sunday:I helped [info]omnifarious's Aunt move furniture. She had some beautiful pieces I was concerned about dinging up but we were just going up and down stairs. She made roast beef and yorkshire pudding. I wished I was rude enough to ask for left overs it was really good. I suggested stopping off at video update on the way home.I thought Omni and I would be walking. Instead his aunt gave a lift. I got on my video hobby horse and started taking about the movies I recommend. I took more time then was needed. Omni and I watched "The Third Miracle" It was interesting but I think some of the characters were a little two dimensional.

S told me a light bulb joke I hadn't heard before.

How many cockroaches does it take to change a light bulb?
I don't know when the light turns on they scatter.
